Chemical Testing:  The M&P lab has a complete in-house chemical laboratory staffed with chemists and engineers who are highly-experienced in performing and developing analytical test methods. Their expertise ranges from quality-controlled sample acquisition and preparation to performing wet chemistry and operating state-of-the-art instrumentation. Their analyses produce detailed information about a material’s elemental composition, structure and chemical properties. Among the techniques used are X-ray fluorescence (XRF), ion chromatography (IC), and inductively-coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (OES-ICP).

Physical Testing:  The mechanical testing facility at The M&P Lab is fully-equipped to characterize the compressive or flexural strength of concrete, or tensile properties of rebar. An in-house machine shop is available to rapidly produce mechanical test specimens for additional testing and analysis.

Petrographic Examinations:  The M&P Lab can conduct petrographic examinations to reveal critical information about the structure of concrete and aggregates.  These techniques, which involve examination of the microstructure under high magnification using a light microscope or a scanning electron microscope, provide a valuable diagnostic tool to assess the quality and durability of the material, or to help identify the root cause of a failure.

Weld Evaluations:  The M&P Lab can provide critical insight to assess the integrity of welds in rebars and other steel elements to ensure compliance with specifications, or identify the cause of a weld failure. Metallurgists at The M&P Lab are widely recognized for their thorough knowledge of welding, joining, and heat-treatment processes.

Corrosion Testing:  For reinforced concrete structures, The M&P Lab will conduct an on-site, non-destructive test survey to identify the areas of probable corrosion activity. The half-cell potential test method is used to measure the electrical potentials of reinforcing steel members throughout a structure. Once these locations are identified, The M&P Lab can perform additional tests to assess the extent of corrosion.
