Have you ever had an auditor ask to witness a metallographic preparation
and evaluation and a sample wasn’t available? Metallography Reference
Kits allow you to use standardized, pre-tested materials to demonstrate
preparation techniques for Nadcap auditors. On-site evaluation results
can then be compared to the known results for that particular kit. The
mounted specimen can be re-polished and evaluated, while the additional
raw stock provided allows for preparation from sectioning through
evaluation. In addition, the kits can be used for training new personnel
and participating in round robin programs. The photomicrographs supplied
with each kit can also be used as reference material for evaluations.
The M&P Lab has begun producing sets of Metallography Reference
Kits, which are now available for purchase. These kits are standardized
materials that have been pre-tested, and are certified and reproducible.
They meet the present requirements for Nadcap audits and meet PRI recommendations
for the following uses:
- Audit demonstrations
- Training new personnel
- Round robin proficiency testing
- Reference materials for evaluations
The following items are included with each kit:
- A mounted, polished specimen
- Photomicrographs (hard copy and CD)
- A piece of raw stock
- Results of evaluation (if applicable)
- Material certification
We are continuing to develop new reference kits to correspond with
the Nadcap checklist. In addition, custom kits to meet specific requirements
